There will be a fun winter getaway for Estonians, families, and friends in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. Located less than three hours from downtown Washington, Davis is an easy weekend trip — but far enough away to feel like a true mountain escape.
And, of course, Davis is the town where WES President Alan Tomson serves as mayor, so for this weekend, all Estonians will have the “keys” to the Town!

Davis sits in the heart of West Virginia's highest mountain country, with three outstanding ski areas within about 20 minutes of town. Whether you enjoy alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, sledding, or simply relaxing by the fire, there will be something for everyone.
Timberline Mountain — Excellent alpine skiing and Alan's home mountain.
Canaan Valley Resort State Park — Alpine skiing, snow tubing, ice skating, and other winter activities.
White Grass Ski Touring Center — One of the region's premier destinations for Nordic cross-country skiing.
Blackwater Falls State Park — Home to the longest sledding run on the East Coast, complete with a magic carpet lift. Great fun for children and adults alike!

Excellent lodging is available at Canaan Valley and Blackwater Falls State Parks, Timberline Mountain, The Billy Motel, and numerous vacation rentals in and around Davis. I encourage you to make lodging reservations soon, as accommodations fill up fast for the winter.
Davis also has two excellent craft breweries, with another one in Thomas, a local distillery, and a surprising variety of wonderful restaurants and gathering places, and artist galleries, and shops.
As we get closer, we will provide recommendations for skiing and winter activities, restaurants, group gatherings, and a weekend schedule.
For now, save January 29–31, 2027, make lodging reservations, dust off your skis and winter gear, and start thinking snow!
We hope to see a wonderful gathering of the Estonian community in Davis for a weekend of skiing, sledding, friendship, and winter fun.
